BEIJING, Sept. 4 -- A Chinese defense spokesperson on Friday confirmed that General Yang Zhibin, commander of the Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command, recently led a delegation to Victoria, Canada, to attend the 2026 Asia-Pacific Chiefs of Defense Conference jointly hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces and the US Pacific Command. 

Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense (MND), said that the Chinese side delivered a keynote speech at the event, presenting China's stance and achievements in maintaining regional peace and stability, and proposing that regional countries enhance defense cooperation and jointly address common challenges. 

The Chinese delegation also held bilateral meetings with representatives from the US, France, Singapore and other countries, the spokesperson added.
