BEIJING, Oct. 16 -- "From October 21 to 22, 2026, the Chinese PLA Navy will host the 2026 Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) Medicine Seminar in Shanghai," said Senior Colonel Chen Xi, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense (MND), at a press briefing on Friday.

According to the spokesperson, delegates from the WPNS member states and observer states are invited to attend the event.

The spokesperson introduced that themed as "Maritime Medical Service in the AI era: Challenges and Solutions", the seminar will cover topics including maritime medical service and treatment of the wounded, medical and emergency rescue in maritime disaster, submarine rescue medical support, and maritime medical service training.

"It can help enhance exchanges and cooperation on maritime medical rescue, and contribute to building a global community of health for all," added the spokesperson.
