Chinese PLA Navy's 989 Task Group Sets Sail For Ocean-going Training

DALIAN, China, Nov. 17 -- On the morning of November 15, the Chinese PLA Navy's 989 Task Group departed from a naval port in Qingdao City, east China's Shandong Province, for a comprehensive ocean-going training mission with over 2,100 midshipmen and sailors aboard. The task group will visit Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The Chinese PLA Navy's 989 Task Group comprises PLANS amphibious dock landing ship Changbaishan (Hull 989), ocean-going navigation training ship Zheng He (Hull 81), and large comprehensive training vessel Xiangqianjin1 (Hull 88). The midshipmen participating in this training come from China's PLA Naval University of Engineering and PLA Naval Aviation University.

During the voyage, the task group will conduct practical training on terrestrial navigation, celestial navigation, and common shipboard training subjects. During the port calls to foreign countries, the task group will host deck receptions, organize visits, and conduct other activities.
