JUBA, March 9 -- Peacekeepers of the 12th Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) recently went to the No. 1 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp near the UN House to provide humanitarian assistance for a Hope Primary School.

The Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion donated over 300 items in five categories to the school, including stationery, daily necessities, and cultural and recreational equipment. In addition, the Chinese peacekeepers set up a temporary clinic to provide free medical service for the teachers and students. The Chinese medical personnel examined the physical conditions of the teachers and students, distributed commonly used medicines, and disseminated basic hygiene knowledge.

UNMISS Sector Juba Commander Brigadier General Muhammad Iqbal Hossain[PH1.1] attended the event and spoke highly of the contributions made by the Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion to the local security and stability and the improvement of the local people's livelihood.

It is learned that since its deployment to the mission area, the Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion has accomplished the tasks authorized by the UN, such as armed patrols and guard duties, with a strong sense of responsibility and mission. As the guardians of peace and messengers of friendship, the Chinese peacekeepers have won wide acclaim from the local people and the international community.
