BEIJING, April 22 -- On April 22, the remains and related personal effects of the 13th batch of 12 Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) martyrs who lost their lives during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953) were returned to China from the Republic of Korea (ROK).
The handover ceremony was jointly held by China and the ROK at Incheon International Airport in the ROK. Subsequently, the Chinese delegation escorted the remains of the CPV martyrs back to China. A grand welcome ceremony was held at Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang at approximately 11:30 a.m.
To remember the history and welcome the heroic ancestors home, careful design was made for the call signs of the aircraft involved in this mission. Among them, the Y-20B large transport aircraft used the call sign "Ronggui 50", which means the heroes who set off in 1950 have gloriously returned home. The J-20 fighter jet used the call sign "Hongying" (Red Eagle), representing inheritance and strength.
Red signboards with yellow characters reading "Heroes Come Home" have been set up on many streets and buildings in Shenyang, with slogans such as "Salute Heroes, Remember Heroes, and Revere Heroes" and "Mountains and Rivers Await, Heroes Come Home" written on them.
At 10:00 a.m. on April 23, a solemn burial ceremony will be held at the CPV martyrs cemetery in Shenyang City.
Since 2014, in accordance with the international law and humanitarian principles, China and the ROK have successfully carried out the handover of remains and relevant personal effects of a total of 1,011 CPV martyrs in the ROK in 12 consecutive batches.
