Bayonet fighting, a close-combat skill dating back to the era of cold weapons, remains highly valued by the military today. The "spirit of the bayonet," embodied by the courage to bare steel, fight fearlessly, and engage the enemy in close-quarters combat, has always been a vital element of the Chinese military's battle-winning capability.
