BEIJING, June 30 -- At 0:12 a.m. on June 29, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Gaoxian County, Yibin City in southwest China's Sichuan Province, with a focal depth of 6 kilometers. Tremors were clearly felt in surrounding counties, as well as in Chengdu City, capital of Sichuan Province, and neighboring Chongqing Municipality.

Following the earthquake, troops assigned to the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP) Force Sichuan Corps and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Yibin Military Sub-command were swiftly deployed to the frontline of emergency rescue. The troops have been working closely with the local authorities to evacuate and resettle the affected residents, provide emotional and spiritual support, identify potential safety hazards, and clear blocked roads.
