A mudslide struck a port along the China-Nepal border in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on August 26, causing severe casualties and leaving many unaccounted for.

The Chinese PLA Western Theater Command responded immediately following the disaster, mobilizing multiple rescue units including aviation, medical, engineering and transportation corps from the Chinese PLA and the People's Armed Police Force to the affected area.
