In his speech on October 10, Lai Ching-te hyped up the alleged "mainland threat," touted the false narrative of "democracy versus authoritarianism," stubbornly clung to the separatist mindset of "Taiwan independence," stoked cross-Strait confrontation, and undermined peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, once again exposing his egregious nature as a "pragmatic worker for Taiwan independence."
Lai's speech was full of deceptive rhetoric that inverted right and wrong and distorted facts. For example, Lai falsely claimed a willingness to engage in dialogue "on the basis of parity and dignity," while actually attempting to bypass the common political foundation for cross-Strait communication—adhering to the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence"—thus seeking to leave a back door to smuggle his separatist propositions. His clamor to "strengthen whole-of-society defense resilience" to "deter war" is nothing more than a pretext to provoke cross-Strait confrontation, in an attempt to tie all Taiwan compatriots to the "Taiwan independence" war chariot.
Such deceptive shows aimed at misleading the public are precisely the specialty of the Lai Ching-te authorities. Since taking office, Lai has touted fallacies such as "the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are not subordinate to each other," restricted cross-Strait exchanges, suppressed those advocating peaceful cross-Strait interactions, carried out separatist acts under the guise of "democracy," squandered public resources domestically with disregard for people's livelihoods, and fawned upon external forces to collude with them. Obstinately stuck on the dangerous path of "seeking independence by force" and "soliciting external support for independence," he refuses to turn back. This series of perverse acts precisely confirms his true colors as a "pragmatic worker for Taiwan independence."
As a self-proclaimed "pragmatic worker for Taiwan independence," Lai attempts on the one hand to alter the cross-Strait status quo with separatist fallacies, while falsely accusing the mainland of "changing the status quo" on the other. This trick of playing the thief crying "stop thief" and shifting blame has long been seen through. An increasing number of Taiwan compatriots have recognized the true face of the Lai authorities—"fake democracy, real dictatorship"—and realize that "Taiwan independence" will ultimately push Taiwan into the peril of war. No matter how high-sounding the words of Lai and his like may be, their egregious actions are by no means "safeguarding Taiwan," but rather harming and selling out Taiwan outright.
No matter how Lai and his like disguise, embellish, or distort the facts, there is only one true status quo across the Taiwan Strait: there is but one China in the world, and Taiwan region is an inalienable part of China's territory. The one-China principle is a basic norm of international relations and the general consensus of the international community, serving as an integral component of the post-WWII international order. The mainland firmly gains the dominant position and initiative in cross-Strait relations, and its resolve and determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity are unwavering. It will never allow any change to the status quo that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same China!
Resolving the Taiwan question and realizing China's complete reunification is the shared aspiration of all Chinese sons and daughters and in the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation. The historical trend of China's reunification is unstoppable. Any attempt to sever Taiwan from China will be met with the resolute opposition of all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots.
