The Chinese People's Liberation Army's (PLA) drills around China's Taiwan region is a severe punishment for Taiwan secessionists who seek "Taiwan independence" through military buildup, and a necessary action to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, spokesperson Lin Jian said.

Lin made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to a related query about U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks on the "Justice Mission 2025" around Taiwan Island, organized by the Eastern Theater Command of the PLA, that commenced on Monday.
