BEIJING, March 26 -- The international community must resolutely curb the proliferation and spread of "neo-militarism" in Japan, said Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, at a press conference on Thursday.

Jiang made the remarks when asked to comment on the media reports that the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) launched a major overhaul on March 23. It includes a major reorganization of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, an expansion of its space unit, and the establishment of an intelligence agency.

It is also reported that Japan took delivery of its first batch of Tomahawk cruise missiles around mid-March. Analyses suggest that these actions will significantly enhance Japan's offensive capabilities.

In response to that, spokesperson Jiang said that with growing military ambitions, Japan continues to expand its JSDF, strengthen offensive and long-range strike capabilities, accelerates the militarization of space, and even seeks "preemptive strike" abilities. These actions have far exceeded the scope of "exclusively defense-oriented policy" and pose a threat to regional peace and stability.

He stressed that the international community must resolutely curb the proliferation and spread of "neo-militarism" in Japan; otherwise, the consequences will be dire.
