BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to work with the United States to faithfully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, so that China-U.S. relations can truly stabilize and improve, to better benefit both countries and the whole world, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a visiting delegation of U.S. senators led by Steve Daines, in Beijing.
This delegation is the first bipartisan group of U.S. senators to visit China since President Trump took office, said Wang, expressing hope that through this visit, they will witness China's development dynamics.
Noting China's consistent policy toward the United States, Wang said the two countries should take mutual respect as the cornerstone, peaceful coexistence as the guideline, and win-win cooperation as the goal, to explore the right way for major countries to get along with each other.
Wang said the key is to keep working on bridging perception gaps of each other, calling on both sides to work together to seek "harmony without uniformity" and choose to be partners instead of rivals. China will never take the beaten path of seeking hegemony as its strength grows, he stressed.
China hopes that the United States will view China objectively, understand China rationally, respect China's core interests earnestly, manage differences properly, and join hands to do more major, practical and good things that are beneficial to both countries and the world, as well as to send more positive signals to the world, Wang added.
The U.S. side shared their impressions of the visit and thoughts on U.S.-China relations. The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
