BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- China urges Japan to rectify its erroneous remarks and acts regarding the Taiwan region and stop surging forward on the path of remilitarization, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said here on Monday.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a daily press briefing, adding Japanese right-wing forces are attempting to challenge the post-World War II international order and in doing so, undermining the very cornerstone of peace in the Asia Pacific.

Guo noted during President Trump's visit, the two heads of state had in-depth exchanges on regional issues of mutual interest.

More than eighty years ago, China and the U.S., along with the other members of the Allied Forces, jointly defeated Japanese militarists and fascists and built the postwar international order, laying the bedrock for peace and development in the Asia Pacific, said Guo.

Japan should first and foremost address its wrongful rhetoric and action on Taiwan, halt its reckless remilitarization drive, return to the right track of good neighborliness, friendship and peaceful development, and earn trust from its Asian neighbors and the world with concrete actions, Guo added.
