STOCKHOLM, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish Armed Forces will remain in Iraq and there are currently no plans for the 70 Swedish soldiers and officers to leave the country, Swedish Television (SVT) reported on Monday.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven wrote on Facebook on Monday that he was following the developments in the Middle East closely and was ready to take action if necessary.

"Now we have to wait for official communication from Iraq to better understand the implications of the decision in parliament," Lofven wrote.

Iraq's parliament adopted a resolution on Sunday calling for the government to demand that the U.S.-led coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS) withdraw from the country.

On Saturday, the Swedish Armed Forces suspended their operations in Iraq until further notice.

"At present, the Swedish force remains in place according to the mandate we have," SVT quoted Swedish Armed Forces Communications Officer Kristina Swaan.

Swaan said they were following developments and were in close contact with the Ministry of Defense.

"Our politicians will decide whether we should remain. If we are asked to leave, we have an action plan for how to bring the Swedish personnel home. For safety reasons, we cannot go into detail," she said.

On Friday, a U.S. drone attack killed Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, instantly inflaming the already strained ties between Washington and Tehran.

Iran has vowed to retaliate against the United States over Soleimani's death.
