China-Pakistan joint naval exercise wraps up

BEIJING, July 14 -- On the afternoon of July 13, the warships participating in the Sea Guardians-2 joint maritime exercise staged by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and Pakistan Navy (PN) held a farewell ceremony in waters east of Zhoushan, a port city in east China’s Zhejiang Province, marking the successful conclusion of the four-day joint naval exercise.

Following the farewell ceremony, the PNS Taimur (266), Pakistan Navy’s second Type 054A/P frigate, embarked on its voyage returning to Pakistan, and the Chinese participating warships also returned to their homeports or headed for new missions.

The Sea Guardians-2 PLAN - PN joint maritime exercise kicked off on July 10. The two sides first carried out onshore activities such as operation planning, professional expertise exchanges, and sports games.

On July 12, the joint exercise entered the live-fire military exercise phase at sea. The two navies successfully completed nine joint drills including attacking at maritime targets, anti-submarine operations, anti-aircraft and anti-missile operations, etc., in the waters off and airspace near Shanghai, with expected goals achieved.

Rear Admiral Liu Zhigang, the joint execise’s director from the Chinese side expressed his satisfaction with the results of the joint exercise. "In this joint exercise, the participating troops from both sides demonstrated their excellent professional accomplishment and superb commanding ability. The Sea Guardians-2 PLAN - PN joint maritime exercis is of far-reaching significance for improving the capacity of the two navies in jointly responding to maritime security threats and safeguarding maritime peace, ” said Liu.
