China-Laos joint medical rescue exercise "Peace Train-2018" kicks off

LAOS, July 25 (ChinaMil) -- The "Peace Train-2018" China-Laos humanitarian and medical joint rescue exercise kicked off at the Logistics College of Laos on the afternoon of July 24, 2018.

As the first such joint exercise between Chinese and Laotian militaries' medical service troops, it is aimed at improving the two sides’ capability in conducting coordinated emergency medical rescue.

Under the theme of “humanitarian medical rescue in flood disasters”, the Chinese and Laotian militaries’ medical service troops set up a joint commanding center during the exercise to command the medical rescue operations in the designated areas of the affected country.

In the next few days, the two militaries’ medical service troops will focus on such exercise subjects as the treatment of a large number of wounded and sick patients at flooded sites, medical evacuation of critically-ill patients through land, air and water transport, epidemic prevention and elimination, disease source monitoring as well as joint command.

Director of the Health Department of the General Logistics Department of the Lao People's Armed Forces (LPAF) expressed gratitude to China for its assistance to Laos in health field in recent years during his opening speech.

"This exercise is a great event in the history of the friendly exchanges between the two militaries, and an opportunity for the two sides to exchange ideas in technology and experience," the director said, adding that "it will promote the in-depth development of cooperation between the two sides in medical treatment."

Senior Colonel Wang Dalin, Director of the General Office of the Health Bureau of the Logistic Support Department of China's Central Military Commission (CMC), said the Chinese and Laotian militaries’ medical service troops should take the important missions and shoulder the joint responsibilities to work together to strengthen humanitarian medical rescue capabilities, deal with disaster threats, as well as protect and improve people's lives and health.

"As the first such joint exercise between the Chinese and Laotian militaries, the exercise marks an important step forward in the cooperation and exchange of medical service between the two militaries," Wang added.

After the opening ceremony, Director of the General Logistics Department of the Lao People's Armed Forces (LPAF) visited the new tent hospital system of the Chinese military. He spoke highly of the professional level of the Chinese participating troops, praised the advanced equipment carried by the Chinese side, and wished the exercise a great success.
