BEIJING, July 1 -- When Hong Kong returned to the motherland on July 1, 1997, the PLA Hong Kong Garrison was assigned to perform defense duties for the HKSAR. Generations of PLA service members in Hong Kong have performed a remarkable job during the past 25 years. They are the staunch guardians of the city.
