CAPE TOWN, June 29 (ChinaMil) -- The 28th Chinese naval escort taskforce of the Chinese PLA Navy arrived at the Port of Simon’s Town, Cape Town, South Africa on Wednesday for a four-day friendly visit.
The Chinese naval vessels docked at the Port of Simon’s Town at 9 a.m. The South African Navy (SAN) held a welcoming ceremony for the Chinese taskforce. Kang Yong, Chinese consul general to Cape Town, South Africa, and Rear Admiral (JG) Solly Petersen, Director Fleet Force Preparation (DFPP) of the SAN, greeted the Chinese taskforce at dock.
After the welcoming ceremony, the South African officials and Chinese Embassy staff in South African visited the Chinese frigate Yancheng (Hull 546). Representatives of China-funded enterprises and overseas Chinese visited the Chinese frigate Weifang (Hull 550).
During the visit, Wu Dongzhu and Guo Hongwei, commanding officers of the Chinese naval escort taskforce, together with their entourage, will meet the military and government officials of South Africa.
They will also visit the college, museum and some vessels of the SAN. The naval officers and soldiers of China and South Africa will conduct military exchanges and sports activities.
