BEIRUT, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Three members of one family were killed and three others were wounded on Tuesday in Israeli artillery shelling and airstrikes targeting several Lebanese villages in the border region of southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The military sources, who spoke anonymously, said that the "three civilians" were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the southeast village of Houla, while the injuries were caused by an Israeli artillery shelling on the southeast villages of Wazzani and Sarda.

The sources added that Israel carried out nine air strikes on six towns and villages in southern Lebanon and fired 50 shells on 13 towns and villages in the south.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said its fighters attacked several Israeli sites, including the sites of Birkat Risha, al-Raheb, Ruwaisat al-Alam, al-Malikiyah, and Kiryat Shmona.

The Lebanon-Israel border has been witnessing increased tension since Oct. 8, 2023, after Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attack on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.

The confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 339 people on the Lebanese side, including 226 Hezbollah members and 65 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
