Armed forces combat forest fire in China's Sichuan

GARZE, Mar. 18 -- A forest fire erupted in Baizi Village, Xiala Town of Yajiang County of Garze Xizang autonomous prefecture in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, at around 5 pm on Friday. Military and militia forces stationed in Sichuan quickly set off for disaster relief operations. At present, all people in the disaster-stricken areas have been safely evacuated, with no casualties found.

After the fire broke out, the Garze Military Sub-Command quickly dispatched a command team to the front line. In the rescue operations, more than 400 militiamen from neighboring towns and villages were deployed to deliver supplies to professional fire-fighting teams and perform tasks such as fire-fighting support, fire observation, and mass evacuation.

The Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP) Force Sichuan Corps activated emergency response planand sent 234 troops with fire-extinguishing equipment to carry out rescue and mass transfer operations. On the same day, multiple batches of relief supplies including water pumps, hose backpacks, water pipes, oil barrels, brush cutters, fire extinguishing guns, chain saws and fire-proof clothing were delivered to the rescue sites.

As of press time, firefighting, hidden danger investigation and mass resettlement work are being carried out in an orderly manner.
