HONG KONG, Apr. 22 -- More than 200 representatives from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison participated in the Hong Kong Tree Planting Day at Tsiu Hang, Sai Kung District in Hong Kong together with local people on April 20.
Around 10:00 am, representatives from the PLA Hong Kong Garrison and various sectors of Hong Kong attended the opening ceremony. Following the ceremony, the military representatives went to the planting area with local people and planted more than 6,000 saplings.
Soldiers from the PLA Hong Kong Garrison said that the tree planting activity had not only promoted their environmental awareness and beautified the environment of Hong Kong, but also enhanced the ties between the garrison and Hong Kong people.
It is learned that the Hong Kong Tree Planting Day was launched in 1998 and has become a symbolic event for environmental protection in Hong Kong. The PLA Hong Kong Garrison has already dispatched about 18,200 members to attend the event, winning wide praise from various sectors of Hong Kong.
