JUBA, April 27 -- The 9th Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) recently received its first combat readiness assessment by the UNMISS, and passed it with excellent results.

Combat readiness assessment mainly tests the contingent’s capabilities to carry out assigned tasks and respond to various emergencies. The UNMISS assessment team conducted the two-day verification and evaluation for 211 items in 16 categories in the Chinese battalion.

On the first day, the assessment team listened to the briefing of the Chinese battalion on combat readiness capability building, and organized a table top exercise. On the second day, they ordered the contingent to conduct on-the-spot drill, which included four tasks, that is, cordon and search, camp defense, reinforcement and civilian protection. The drill tested the capabilities of the contingent in command and control, force coordination, comprehensive support, and application of engagement rules.
