BEIJING, May 13 -- The opening ceremony of the China-Mongolia "Steppe Partner-2024" joint army training was held at a training ground in Dornogovi Province of Mongolia at noon on May 12. Representatives of Chinese and Mongolian troops participated in the ceremony.
During the event, China and Mongolia held a flag-raising ceremony, and the Chinese joint training commanding officer and the Mongolian army commander delivered speeches respectively and announced the official start of the joint training.
It is learnt that the Chinese participating troops are chosen mainly from a brigade under the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) 79th Group Army, encompassing the wheeled armored assault, fire assault, operational support, logistic support and various other specialized elements.
The joint training will last until late May and will be carried out in three stages including force projection and assembly, joint training and force withdrawal. It will focus on the command, coordination, and support of the two sides in jointly combating illegal armed groups. Next, China and Mongolia will establish the joint training headquarters to carry out targeted training around field operations.
