A helicopter unit of the Chinese peacekeeping mission on Tuesday evacuated workers for the United Nations trapped in conflict-torn Sudan.
The third Chinese Peacekeeping Military Utility Helicopter Unit to United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei helped transfer 19 UN staffers from the southern part of the country to the region of Abyei.
The flight from Kadugli Airport to Abyei took nearly three hours, an assignment conducted at high security risks, according to the unit.
Liu Xiaodong, chief of the Chinese helicopter unit, said the success of the evacuation operation spoke volumes of the Chinese peacekeeping mission's professionalism and China's responsibility as a major country.
