Chinese peacekeeping contingent to South Sudan completes mass ammunition destruction task

NAIROBI, Sept. 21 – In collaboration with the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in South Sudan, the 13th Chinese Peacekeeping Horizontal Engineering Company to the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) completed the task of destroying large quantities of expired ammunition recently in Wau and Kuajok barracks after more than one month of efforts.

The ammunition in stock destroyed totaled nearly 300,000 rounds of 10 types including pistol and rifle bullets.

The chief of the UNMAS affirmed the Chinese peacekeepers’ smooth destruction of the ammunition, and expressed his appreciation for the strict and meticulous work style and serious and responsible work attitude of the Chinese engineering peacekeepers.
