BEIJING, Jan. 22 -- In recent days, according to the annual defensive works construction plan of the UNIFIL, the 22nd Chinese Peacekeeping Construction Engineering Company to the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has carried out the construction of camp defense works at different locations.

Since bare rocks were scattered around and most of the original barbed wire had been covered by weeds and bushes, it was difficult for large engineering vehicles to enter on the construction site. Besides, in case of the exchange of fire between Lebanon and Israel, terrorist attacks and other possible contingencies, the Chinese peacekeepers had to wear combat gears during the construction process, adding difficulties for the task operations.

After nearly one month of hard work, the Chinese peacekeeping engineers has completed the emplacement of 500 meters of concertina barbed wire, refurbishment of 300 meters of gabion wall, and upgrade of the water supply system's defensive works, winning themselves high recognition of the officials from the UNIFIL .

Since its deployment to the peacekeeping mission area in Lebanon in mid-December, 2023, the Chinese Peacekeeping Construction Engineering Contingent has refined the emergency plan, conducted emergency response drills and repaired and reinforced defensive works of various kinds for many times, maintaining a high level of readiness.
