BEIJING, May 30-- The 22nd Chinese peacekeeping multi-role engineering company to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) passed the first United Nations (UN) military capability assessment in this year with high standards on the morning of May 28, local time.
A nine-member assessment team sent by the UNIFIL headquarters conducted all-round inspections and assessments on more than 600 items within 17 categories, such as search and checking, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), construction of camp defensive facilities, helicopter pad construction and repair, road construction and airfield maintenance. The contingent passed the assessment with excellent results.
The military capability assessment is a systematic assessment biannually conducted by the UN of peacekeeping forces in various mission areas.
Since its deployment to the mission area in December last year, the 22nd Chinese peacekeeping multi-role engineering company to the UNIFIL has completed three annual tasks and eight temporary assignments by the UNIFIL headquarters, treated more than 200 local patients, and actively carried out humanitarian relief operations and cultural exchanges. These efforts have earned high praise from the UNIFIL and the local people.
