BEIRUT, June 3 -- The 22nd Chinese peacekeeping construction engineering company to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) passed the first military capability assessment during their mission period on May 31, local time.

It is reported that the military capability assessment is a systematic assessment of peacekeeping forces conducted by the UN, which aims to evaluate whether the peacekeeping forces have the capability to complete peacekeeping tasks with high standards and effectively deal with various emergencies.

At around 9 a.m. that day, a joint assessment team selected from personnel, intelligence, operations, training, and communications departments of the UNIFIL headquarters arrived at the Chinese peacekeeping camp to conduct assessments on 538 items in 88 classes of 12 categories, including personnel management, situation awareness, engineering operations, training communications, and self-sustainment.

After listening to the work briefing of the Chinese peacekeeping construction engineering company, the assessment team reviewed relevant documents and compared them one by one with the UN general standards. Then, the assessment team carried out comprehensive inspections and assessments on the camp's security and defense facility construction, military training, command and communication, medical rescue, and ammunition storage management.

After the comprehensive inspection and evaluation, the Chinese peacekeeping construction engineering company met all the standards and passed the first UN military capability assessment during its mission period.

It is learnt that 22nd Chinese peacekeeping construction engineering company to the UNIFIL is the only completely-formed construction engineering contingent in the UNIFIL, and is mainly responsible for such tasks as defense engineering construction, barrack and camp building, "Blue Line" boundary marker installation and humanitarian rescue. Since its deployment to the mission area in December last year, the Chinese peacekeeping construction engineering company has completed five annual tasks and 29 temporary assignments, making outstanding contributions to the UNIFIL and local development.
