BEIJING, July 6 -- The Chinese Embassy in Djibouti held a reception on July 2 to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) that will fall on August 1.

Attendees included heads of the Djiboutian military headquarters, various services and law enforcement agencies, high-level representatives of the government and parliament, representatives of foreign military bases in Djibouti, military attachés from various countries, Chinese military personnel stationed in the PLA Support Base in Djibouti, Chinese-funded institutions in Djibouti, overseas Chinese, and major diplomats from the Chinese embassy.

Chinese Ambassador to Djibouti Hu Bin said in his speech that during the PLA's glorious 97-year history, it has made great contributions to national independence, liberation and prosperity. The Chinese PLA has also provided strong support for safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests and made significant contributions to world peace. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the cooperation on defense and security between the two countries has deepened with fruitful results. Standing at the new starting point of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Djibouti, China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Djibouti in all fields, including defense and security, to better ensure the peace and prosperity of Djibouti and the region, as well as the well-being of the people.

Defense Attaché Hua Xiao said that in recent years, President Xi Jinping and President Ismail Omar Guelleh have reached important consensus on further deepening the China-Djibouti strategic partnership, injecting new vitality into the development of relations between two countries and militaries. China appreciates Djibouti's support and assistance for the PLA Support Base and looks forward to working with Djibouti to play a greater role in maintaining international and regional peace and stability.

At the reception, Chinese military personnel stationed in the PLA Support Base in Djibouti performed Chinese martial arts and Tai Chi, showcasing traditional Chinese culture.
