CARACAS , Aug. 20 -- The 4th International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Cadet Games kicked off at Fuerte Tiuna military base in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, at around 7:00 p.m. on August 17 local time.
Accompanied by the opening ceremony march, the military sports delegation composed of more than 130 Chinese military cadets marched by the reviewing stand.
It is reported that this is the most important event held by the CISM this year. During the six-day games, more than 490 cadets from nine countries will compete for the trophies in seven disciplines including military pentathlon, orienteering, shooting, swimming, track and field, volleyball and fencing.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) selected cadets from the PLA National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), the PLA Army Infantry Academy, the PLA Army Academy of Artillery and Air Defense, the PLA Army Special Operations Academy, the PLA Naval University of Engineering and other academies and organized them into six teams to participate in all events except fencing.
The CISM World Cadet Games was initiated in 2010. This is the first time that the Chinese military has organized a delegation to participate in the World Cadet Games.
