BEIJING, Sept. 29 -- Upon invitation, the China Coast Guard (CCG) delegation attended the 24th North Pacific Coast Guard Forum (NPCGF) Summit in Tokyo, Japan, from September 23 to 27.

The summit was hosted by the Japan Coast Guard on a rotating basis, with high-level delegations attending from member organizations including the Canada Coast Guard, Japan Coast Guard, ROK Coast Guard, US Coast Guard, and CCG. The Chinese delegation was composed of 14 members from the CCG, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maritime Safety Administration, and the Chinese embassy in Japan.

During the summit, the attendees had in-depth discussions on topics such as countering maritime illicit trafficking, joint operations, fisheries law enforcement, maritime security and emergency response. Multiple common understandings were reached on how to closely coordinate enforcement against transnational maritime crimes such as drug trafficking and human smuggling, how to conduct high-seas fisheries enforcement patrols under the frameworks of the North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC) and the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC), how to promote research on maritime emergency rescue and ecological environmental protection, how to enhance the exchange of enforcement information, and how to organize bilateral and multilateral joint exercises.

All parties agreed to continue promoting bilateral and multilateral maritime law enforcement cooperation, capacity building, and information sharing under the framework of the forum to enhance the ability to respond to maritime emergencies and jointly maintain regional maritime security and stability.

According to the rotating schedule, the CCG will host the NPCGF experts meeting and summit in 2025.
