BEIJING, March 30 -- The PLA Amy launched its first occupational qualification assessment on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) pilot in late March, with 46 soldiers passing the certification test.

After two years of trial practice, the PLA Army's occupational training and certification system for UAV pilot has been officially launched across the Army troops this year.

The candidate soldiers were required to independently analyze the flight parameters, and pass nine subjects including mission planning, takeoff and flying, mission operation, and return and landing with various UAVs within the allotted time. The assessment has been under rigorous combined evaluation by the experts from troops and colleges.

Before certification, soldiers had completed online courses and reached the threshold of flying hours. The qualified soldiers obtained both military and civilian UAV pilot certificates.

It is learned that this event was organized by a center under the PLA Army Staff Department and undertaken by the Ordnance NCO Academy under the Army Engineering University of the PLA, with nearly a hundred soldiers from different army troops involved.
