DALIAN, May 16 -- Chinese naval training ship Qi Jiguang (Hull 83) attached to a training ship flotilla of the PLA Dalian Naval Academy set sail from a military port in Dalian on May 15, with 476 naval cadets and sailors onboard, to conduct cadet training in far seas, and visit four countries, namely, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines, as scheduled.
The cadets involved all came from the PLA Dalian Naval Academy, majoring in ship navigation command, ship communication command, etc.
During the nearly 40-day voyage, they will sail through the Yellow Sea, East China Sea, South China Sea, Gulf of Thailand and Western Pacific, and conduct training on more than 130 subjects in six categories, aiming to improve their at-sea skills and professional abilities.
In addition to courses of geography and navigation, astronomy and navigation, seamanship and so on, they will also carry out main and auxiliary guns firing and light weapons shooting exercises under the scenario of anti-terrorism and anti-piracy deployment.
When arriving at foreign ports, the cadets will have the chance to visit foreign military vessels, academies and training facilities. Various cultural and sports activities, including vessel open day and on-deck receptions, will be held to deepen the friendship with local people.
This voyage marks the third navigation training and visit mission in open seas of the training ship Qi Jiguang.
