SHIGATSE, July 7 –- Recently, a robot-assisted surgery and a computer-guided surgery have been performed on plateau at the elevation of 3,900 meters, which was led by Xinqiao Hospital of Army Medical University and coordinated by the 953 Hospital of the PLA Army. The successful application of such new technologies in high-elevation areas brings good news to soldiers and local resident in Xizang who suffer from osteoarticular injuries.
Not long ago, a soldier assigned to a border defense regiment under the PLA Xizang Military Command injured his knee joint during military physical training. He was diagnosed with a cruciate ligament injury of the knee joint and needed surgical treatment. Then the doctors performed the robot-assisted and computer-guided surgeries for him.
In the past, troops stationed on plateau needed to be sent out of Xizang for treatment when they encountered similar conditions, which was often followed by long treatment cycles and uncertain rehabilitative effects. The application of such new technologies will effectively solve these problems, shortening the distance and saving the time for the medical treatment.
While providing support for troops stationed on plateau, the 953 Hospital of the PLA Army also provides medical service to local people in Xizang. By now, over ten local people with hip and knee joint injuries have undergone such surgeries, with most of them being able to make out-of-bed activity just the next day.
