Chinese peacekeeping medical contingent to UNMISS completes comprehensive exercise

WAU, South Sudan, July 31 -- The 13th Chinese Peacekeeping Level-II Hospital in Wau completed with high standards a comprehensive training exercise of treating a large number of injured personnel organized by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on July 28, local time.

This exercise was closely aligned with the changing security situation in the peacekeeping mission area, aiming to evaluate the Chinese contingent's capabilities of treating a large number of injured personnel under emergency circumstance, as well as the command coordination abilities of relevant units.

The exercise was effectively directed and coordinated by the Joint Operations Centre of the United Nations Base in Wau. The Chinese peacekeeping medical contingent, with the 13th Chinese Peacekeeping Level-II Hospital as the main unit, was responsible for crucial tasks such as on-site overall command, temporary coordination and cooperation, and receiving critically injured personnel. More than 10 units participated in the exercise, including several functional departments of UNMISS Sector West, the 13th Chinese Peacekeeping Horizontal Engineering Company to UNMISS, and Bangladesh's peacekeeping infantry battalion.

During the exercise, members of the Chinese peacekeeping medical contingent rapidly conducted battlefield triage and efficiently treated "the injured personnel" for common battlefield injuries such as craniocerebral trauma and limb fractures. They sequentially performed damage control surgery, advanced life support, emergency medical evacuation and other drills, and skillfully utilized various diagnostic tools to enhance treatment efficiency.

The entire exercise was closely interconnected. The Chinese peacekeeping medical contingent successfully executed the prescribed actions with high standards, showcasing the professional level of medical treatment and the joint command and coordination capability of Chinese peacekeeping level-II hospital.
