Naval ship Qi Jiguang sets sail for ocean-going training mission

QINGDAO, Sep. 4 -- Chinese naval training ship Qi Jiguang set sail from a naval port in Qingdao for the midshipmen ocean-going training mission at 10:00 am, September 4. On a voyage of more than one month, training ship Qi Jiguang will sail through the East China Sea, South China Sea, Java Sea, Coral Sea and other waters, transiting key channels including Taiwan Strait, Karimata Strait, and Torres Strait.

During the voyage, the midshipmen onboard will participate in training on 16 different subjects, such as geo-navigation, celestial navigation, and marine hydrometeorological analysis and application

It is learnt that more than 300 Chinese midshipmen from the Chinese PLA Naval University of Engineering, Naval Submarine Academy and Naval Aviation University  are onboard for the internship visit. In the meantime, 10 midshipmen from Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji will join their Chinese counterparts and participate in the training together.

The ship Qi Jiguang, with a full displacement of nearly 10,000 tons, was commissioned in February 2017 and assigned to a training flotilla of PLA Dalian Naval Academy. Since then, the ship has completed several ocean-going training missions, with more than 7,000 midshipmen tempered, and visited over 10 countries including Thailand, Italy and New Zealand.
