9th Chinese military medical team to Laos awarded Medal of Valor

VIENTIANE, Dec. 4 -- Members of the 9th medical team dispatched by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to Laos were awarded the Grade II Medal of Valor by the Lao People's Army (LPA) in the Lao capital Vientiane on December 1, in recognition of their outstanding contributions during the medical assistance period in Laos.

The Lao deputy defense minister attended the event and spoke highly of the performance of the Chinese medical experts. The experts not only helped the Military Hospital 103 of the LPA to establish the first chest pain center in Laos, and facilitated the first medical academic exchange conference, but also shared advanced medical technology and management experience, making contributions to the sustainable development of the medical and health service for the Lao people through practical actions, he said.

Since 2019, the Chinese PLA has sent several batches of medical teams to the Military Hospital 103 of the LPA. The 9th medical team arrived in Laos in June this year to begin the six-month medical assistance work. It consisted of 10 members, covering cardiovascular medicine and surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, hematopathology, orthopedics, gastroenterology and other medical fields.
