BEIJING, Dec. 21 -- A total of 52 peacekeepers of the 22nd Chinese peacekeeping multi-role engineering company to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have undergone qualification training on mine clearance and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) recently.

The training courses focused on field environment and characteristics of explosive war remnants in the humanitarian demining operations. During the training, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) dispatched professionals who have worked in Lebanese minefields for more than 10 years to provide theoretical lectures and on-site guidance to the Chinese demining operators. Those experts explained in detail the minefield conditions in the Lebanese mission areas, humanitarian demining standard operating procedures, and requirements for certification and assessment on mine clearance and EOD professional.

In the simulated minefield, the trainers demonstrated correct moves and explained the minefield rescue methods after emergencies based on real accidents that occurred in the UNIFIL.

Since the first Chinese peacekeeping contingent to the UNIFIL was dispatched in 2006, nearly one thousand mine clearance operators have successfully passed the certification test for UN mine clearance and EOD professional qualification.
