BEIJING, Mar. 28 -- "Taiwan is China's Taiwan. There is no such thing as the so-called 'prohibited, restricted waters' in the Xiamen-Kinmen sea area," said Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, at a regular press conference on Thursday.

Wu made the remarks in respond to a media query regarding the recent law enforcement activities conducted by China Coast Guard (CCG) in what Taiwan calls "prohibited waters" around Kinmen Dao.

Wu stressed that the regular law enforcement and patrol operations carried out by the CCG help maintain normal order in relevant waters and ensure the safety of the lives and property of fishermen on both sides of the strait.

Wu pointed out that when handling the February 14th egregious incident of boat collision, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities showed no respect for human life and no intention of taking responsibilities, which has aroused public anger among compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and the DPP authorities must offer a proper and clear explanation to the public.

"The PLA has been closely following the situation at sea, and will be well prepared to respond to emergencies and resolutely safeguard cross-Strait peace and stability," stressed the spokesperson.
