KINSHASA, May 6 -- A total of 218 members of the 27th Chinese peacekeeping troops to United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) arrived in Chengdu City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, on May 4, after completing the 8-month-long peacekeeping mission.

It is learnt that the 27th Chinese peacekeeping troops to MONUSCO were mainly responsible for engineering and medical support tasks in the mission area. Since being deployed to the mission area in September 2023, its engineering company had completed 13 engineering investigations, 16 engineering tasks, and two rescue tasks with high standards. The troops' medical company had received nearly 500 patients in total and successfully carried out 41 surgeries and more than 620 examinations.

All members of the 27th Chinese peacekeeping troops to MONUSCO were awarded the UN Peace Medal on April 9, 2024.

Since 2003, China has dispatched 27 batches of peacekeeping forces to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Chinese peacekeepers have implemented the Global Security Initiative (GSI) with concrete actions and contributed the Chinese strength to maintaining world peace.

The United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2717 on December 19, 2023, requiring the gradual withdrawal of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) starting from December, 2023. The rotation of the Chinese peacekeeping troops in the DRC will be stopped after all the members of the 27th Chinese peacekeeping troops to MONUSCO return home.
