Chinese defense minister talks with Qatari minister of state for defense affairs

BEIJING, May 22 -- Chinese defense minister Admiral Dong Jun held talk with Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs of Qatar, in Beijing, on Wednesday.

Admiral Dong Jun said that China and Qatar are strategic partners. In recent years, Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani several times. The two heads of state have reached a series of important consensus, which provides the fundamental principle for deepening the relations between the two countries and two militaries. The mil-to-mil relation between China and Qatar boasts a solid foundation and vast development room. The two sides should further improve strategic mutual trust, expand areas of cooperation, and enhance people-to-people exchange, thus constantly elevating the military cooperation to a higher level.

Dr. Khalid said that a unified and prosperous China is in the common interests of the international community. Qatar attaches great importance to developing relations with China and is willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation with the Chinese side within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and constantly improve  relations  between the two countries and two militaries under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state.

Before the talk, Admiral Dong Jun hosted a welcome ceremony for Dr. Khalid and accompanied Dr. Khalid to inspect the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Guard of Honor.
