CHENGDU, July 23 -- On Monday, rescuers from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP) Force and local militias continued disaster relief efforts in Xinhua village, Malie township in Hanyuan, a county under the administration of Ya'an in Sichuan province, following a mountain torrent and debris flow.

In the early morning of July 20, Xinhua Village was hit by a sudden mountain torrent and debris flow. The Ya'an Military Sub-command dispatched troops and militias for search and rescue operations, relocating disaster victims and transporting relief supplies. The militia emergency response team in Hanyuan County conducted searches for missing persons along both sides of the river, from downstream of the broken bridge on the Malie River to the confluence of the Dadu River.

The Ya'an Detachment under the PAP Sichuan Corps dispatched troops equipped with drones and rescue equipment. They worked against the clock to search for missing persons, assist with supply relocation, clear road debris, and assess surrounding hazards. On Monday afternoon, medical staff of the detachment arrived at the resettlement site with medical equipment and medicines to provide medical services for the disaster victims.

As of Monday afternoon, more than 400 disaster victims had been safely evacuated and properly resettled at several temporary resettlement sites in Malie Township.
