Chinese defense minister meets foreign military guests attending 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum

BEIJING, Sept. 13 -- Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun met in Beijing respectively with Chilean Defense Minister Maya Fernández Allende, Madagascan Defense Minister Lala Monja Delphin Sahivelo , Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi, Maldivian Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Babikyan, and Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin, who are attending the 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, on Thursday.

Admiral Dong expressed his welcome to the guests for attending the 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, and said that in the face of a volatile and intertwined international and regional situation, all parties need to work closely together to discuss global security strategies and explore solutions for enduring peace and stability. China is ready to work with all parties to implement the consensus reached by the heads of state, continue close communication and learn from each other. China is willing to consolidate and develop existing cooperation outcomes, explore new growth points, enrich new connotations of cooperation, and elevate military cooperation to a new height, thus making greater contributions to the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

During the meetings, all the parties wished the 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum a complete success and expressed willingness to further promote bilateral military relations.

Fernández said that Chile has always firmly adhered to the one-China principle and will continue to offer strong support to China on various occasions. The two sides have a sound mechanism and foundation for defense exchanges and the Chilean side is willing to further expand the breadth and depth of cooperation between the two countries.

Sahivelo said Madagascar and China enjoy a long-standing friendship. During the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the two heads of state elevated Madagascar-China relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.  The two militaries should leverage the opportunity to constantly promote their exchanges and cooperation.

Sidi reaffirmed Mauritania's stance of abiding by the one-China principle and stated that the two militaries should conform to the new positioning of bilateral relations, deepen pragmatic bilateral exchanges and cooperation, and further improve and elevate bilateral military relations.

Ghassan considered the friendly relations between Maldives and China as the best example of China's equal treatment of countries, large or small. He expressed his hope that the two militaries will keep close personnel exchanges, deepen maritime security cooperation and further strengthen defense ties.

Mirzo called China Tajikistan's reliable partner and close friend, and said that Tajikistan is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and continue to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, personnel training and other areas.

Khrenin noted that Belarus and China enjoy an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership. Belarus is willing to continue to carry out exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields such as joint training and personnel training to jointly elevate the bilateral military relations to a higher level.

Babikyan said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, Armenia-China relations have maintained a sound momentum of development and yielded fruitful results. The two militaries have achieved remarkable outcomes in the cooperation in military education, personnel training and other fields, and Armenia hopes to further deepen the bilateral defense relations with China.

Fomin emphasized that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China. Russia-China relations are of great significance to global and regional security and stability. Russia is willing to continue to carry out pragmatic exchanges and cooperation with China and contribute to strengthening Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era.
