BEIJING, Sept. 30 -- The 2024 International Humanitarian Demining Training Course, which was hosted by the Chinese government, on Friday held its closing ceremony at the Chinese PLA Army Engineering University in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, and Brigadier General Phayvanh Chanthaphomma, the Deputy Director General of the Political Department of Laos' Ministry of National Defence, led their delegations to attend the event respectively.
Nearly 40 trainees from Cambodia and Laos participated in the three-month training course on mine clearance. The course focused on command, operations and management in humanitarian mine clearance actions and applied new technologies including minefield reconnaissance drones, explosive disposal robots and laser demining systems, which enhanced the capabilities of the two countries in responding to landmine-related incidents and disposing explosives left over from previous wars. China also handed over a batch of mine-detection and mine-clearance aid materials to Cambodia and Laos.
"On behalf of the Cambodian government and people, we are so grateful to China for their important contribution to mine clearance in Cambodia," said Ly Thuch.
