BEIJNG, Oct. 14 -- The Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command organized the Liaoning aircraft carrier task group to conduct joint drills with the army, navy and air forces on October 14 in the waters and airspace to the east of Taiwan Island on such subjects as vessel-aircraft coordination, joint air suppression, and fire strikes on sea and ground targets, according to Senior Captain Li Xi, spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). The spokesperson stressed that the drills are to test the joint operation capabilities by all services and arms around the island.
