Chinese defense minister holds talks with Russian counterpart in Beijing

BEIJING, Oct. 14 --  Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun held talks with visiting Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov in Beijing on Monday.

Admiral Dong noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Russia, and the friendship between the two sides has been tested and strengthened over time. The two militaries should follow the direction guided by the two heads of state to deepen strategic coordination, improve the quality and effectiveness of cooperation, push forward the development of mil-to-mil relations, firmly safeguard the common interests of the two countries, and work together to maintain global strategic stability.

Belousov said that the military cooperation between Russian and China is an important factor in maintaining global and regional peace and stability. Russia is willing to work with China to firmly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue to carry out close and efficient cooperation, constantly improve the level and quality of cooperation, jointly cope with security challenges, and push bilateral military relations to a new level.

Prior to the talks, Admiral Dong held a welcome ceremony for Belousov and accompanied him to review the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
