Chinese defense minister meets foreign military guests attending 2nd Seminar on Security Situation in Gulf of Guinea

BEIJING, Dec. 5 -- Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun, met with the heads of delegations of various countries attending the 2nd Seminar on Security Situation in the Gulf of Guinea in Shanghai, on Thursday.

Admiral Dong Jun said that the Gulf of Guinea is the common home for regional countries and also an important bond for strengthening communication and cooperation between China and Africa and building a maritime community with a shared future. The Chinese side is willing to work with the militaries of countries within the region to strengthen the guidance by the principle of shared destiny, shoulder the common responsibility of safeguarding security, promote the building of a more systemic maritime cooperation, and carry on the traditional friendship featured by sincerity and unity between China and regional countries. It is hoped that all parties would work together to effectively convert the consensus reached on this seminar into cooperation outcomes, thus benefitting the regional people and contributing to the building of All-Weather China-Africa Community with a Shared Future for the New Era.

Heads of military delegations participating in the meeting, including Nigeria Chief of Navy Staff Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla and Gabon National Navy Chief of Staff Charles Hubert Bekale Meyong, expressed that the security of Gulf of Guinea is of key significance to regional countries. The seminar has laid a solid foundation for relevant parties to exchange opinions, share experience and strengthen cooperation. Regional countries are willing to reinforce strategic communication, enhance mutual trust and deepen cooperation with China, so as to commonly build a safe, stable and prosperous Gulf of Guinea.
