SHIJIAZHUANG, Dec. 6 -- The first batch of the 14th Chinese peacekeeping contingent to South Sudan (Wau) arrived at Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, after completing its one-year peacekeeping mission.
During the mission, the contingent repaired over 350 kilometers of roads and supported more than 100 small-scale engineering projects for three bases at Wau, Kuajok, and Aweil.
Over the past year, the Chinese peacekeepers have treated more than 1,500 patients, admitted more than 40 inpatients, undertaken 19 emergency forward reception and aeromedical evacuation tasks, and conducted over 20 surgeries. They also carried out material donation, first-aid skill training, free clinic support and various other humanitarian assistance activities, and donated over 83 types of materials totaling more than 19,800 items.
The 14th Chinese peacekeeping contingent to South Sudan, consisting of an engineer detachment and a medical detachment, was deployed to the South Sudan (Wau) mission area in December 2023. The engineer detachment was mainly formed by a brigade under the 81st Group Army of the PLA Central Theater Command. The medical detachment of the 14th Chinese peacekeeping contingent to South Sudan (Wau) was mainly formed by members from the 989th Hospital of the PLA Zhengzhou Joint Logistic Support Center.
According to the plan, the second batch of the 14th Chinese peacekeeping contingent to South Sudan (Wau) will return to China in mid-December.
