BEIJING, Dec. 16 -- Recently, the Intermediate People's Court of Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province, heard a case of illegally obtaining state secrets. The defendant, surnamed Li, was sentenced to 10-month imprisonment for taking pictures of local military bases and equipment and spreading them widely online.
It is learned that from December 2023 to January 2024, Li, a drone enthusiast, operated a drone with remote high-definition camera function to illegally film the deployment of a military radar station and the overall layout of the garrison of a Group Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). Li compiled two short videos and posted them on his social media account to grab attention, which were read more than 4,000 times and shared and liked more than 30 times.
It was identified that the videos made by Li contained one classified-level item and one confidential-level item. In March 2024, Li was brought to trial and confessed the above criminal facts. The drone and other tools for the criminal purpose were seized at the same time.
