BEIJING, Mar. 27 -- "Military cooperation between the US and the Philippines should not harm security interests of other countries or undermine regional peace and stability," said Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, at a press conference on Thursday.
The spokesperson made the remarks when answering a media query about US Defense Secretary's upcoming visit to the Philippines. It's reported that the US Defense Secretary is scheduled to visit the Philippines and the two sides may discuss the responses to China's activities in the South China Sea and the US support to Philippine security forces. Meanwhile, the Philippine ambassador to the US recently said that this visit aims to show the Chinese side that the US-Philippines relations are very solid and the Philippines is convinced that the US security commitment to the country will not change.
The defense spokesperson warned the Philippines that the US actually maintains an astonishing historical record in reneging on promises and betraying allies.
